Shady Walk.

Soft pastel on watercolour paper, initially coloured with blue-green acrylic paint and textured with clear Colourfix pastel primer. This pathway, with high banks of flowering shrubs, was in the grounds of Dunster Castle, Somerset. It's junction with another upward-sloping path was heavily dappled with light, constantly on the move and creating sparkling patterns. The flowers included big clumps of hydrangeas. It was quite impossible to produce a painting on the spot due to high visitor-traffic, so only a quick outline drawing could be done, plus a photo. The idea of a painting spent many months stewing in the subconscious; but nothing could be done about it in 2007. Last month both drawing and picture were resurrected and the pastel produced over two moderate working-sessions.

Price: currently retained.
