Oil pastel on deep blue Colorfix paper, measuring 15" x 7" approx. Like their soft, dusty colleagues, oilpastels are fairly blunt drawing instruments. The general tangle of leaves and stems that comes with small flowers like these had to be grossly simplified in order to create a background. Several greens were blended together, and overlaid with a Venetian Red pastel to knock out some of the yellow-green acidity. The pansies contain several shades of purples and deep pink.
