Florals and Landscape Paintings by Christine
Canalside Cottages.
Sold subject to approval.
Soft pastel on Colourfix paper. These old cottages were spotted while travelling in a boat on the Kennet and Avon Canal. They have that "biscuit-tin lid" appeal, maybe, but there are still many parts of Britain where such sights can be found. They are part of our heritage that seems to be snubbed these days by so many insensitive folk keen to modernise every square inch of habitat that we have.
Several photos were taken (rapidly, before the boat had gone too far!) and a watercolour was initially produced from them. This year I felt that the subject was worthy of a second approach, so soft pastels were used to catch the colourful spillage of flowers against the more formal and simple shapes of the pre-Victorian houses. The subject is what it is; cottages with flowers; actually, I think these are listed buildings.
Double antique-white mount with natural wood frame and glass. Image size 18" x 11" (45cm x 28cm); overall framed size 22" x 15" (55cm x 37cm) approx.
Price: Sold.

Picture with mount and frame (photo'd at slight angle).
