Somerset Sunset
Original pastel painting on Colourfix textured paper; 45cm x 28cm approx. (18 x 11 inches). Currently framed with antique white double mount and plain pale wood frame (see supplementary images below). Overall size 58 cm x 42cm (23 x 17 inches approx). Sunset behind the island of Flatholme, off the coast of Weston-s-mare. Pastel is a medium capable of almost infinite subtle colour changes, used here to balance bright golds against cool, shadowy mauve-blue clouds. I resisted the temptation to put figures on the beach mainly because everyone else does it....and because the focal point of this picture is the sun.
