Aquilegias in Blue

Original acrylic painting on box canvas, 20" x 20" x 1.75" depth (50cm x 50cm x 4cm). Unframed. Aquilegias, or "granny bonnets" normally turn their faces downwards, so if you lift one you will see a complex multi-chambered flower head. This pattern has been used to create an essentially decorative piece, overlapping some shapes and making translucent petals. I have used blues, violet, deep purple and red-violet to make the picture, since aquilegias in my own garden tend towards these colours. During the painting, the shapes seemed to float in a sea of deep blue colour, so I resisted the urge to paint more of them and allowed them the visual space to float freely. Digital photos tend to destroy delicate pinkish-purples and some blues, so a little adjustment of the final image has been made, to restore them where required.

Price: £140 inclusive of delivery to UK addresses.
